How to be extraordinary

May 14, 2012 17 Comments

Have you ever stopped and wonder how people like Mozart, Shakespeare, DaVinci and even Jordan became such an influence in our everyday lives? How is it that they became so creative and talented that it seems almost impossible for anyone to try to be like them? What you don’t know is that you yourself already have the ability to be extraordinary like them, what you lack is the belief.  The difference between us and them is they had and have complete control in their ability to go beyond. You have to understand that not one of them became overnight successes. If you read their autobiography, they had to go through trials after trials, errors after errors and practices non-stop to get to where they are. It’s the learning process that they had to go through and going over many obstacles to make them extraordinary people. That is what it means to be extraordinary.

Dream of big things. dreams are what drives us to do great. They give us hope when we are down, and brings us happiness when we have nowhere to go. See yourself as having that something you’ve always wanted and keep holding on to that thought.

Plan baby steps.  “Big things comes from small beginning”. Every great dream requires planning. Don’t plan for tomorrow, plan for today and ask yourself what are you going to do today in order to reach that great dream?

Just be yourself. We have a natural tendency to follow whoever that is great and just copies whatever it is they do. It is okay to a certain extent but we don’t want to forget who we really are. Learn from them but don’t be exactly like them, know that what you offer can only be from you and no one else.

And smile. Smiling is like a magnetic attraction; ever smile at someone and they automatically smiles back? Okay there are some will not smile back but it’s not about them.  Even when you are really in a bad mood, if someone smiles at you, ask yourself, what would you do? Just smile back, even a small crack will either bring you or the other person happiness. It’s simple but it’s an ingredient to something great, something extraordinary.

lol funny to see Jordan mentioned with those other famous people. You’re right that just about anyone has the power to do extraordinary things. A positive mindset is extremely important. If you cannot picture yourself achieving your goals, you will find some excuse to not fully pursue them. You want to really want it and be willing to do what it takes to get there. The people you mentioned were all very driven individuals. They went above and beyond to pursue theirs dreams. Some natural talent helps a lot, but there are others who just got better with a lot of practice.

I agree – a smile goes a long way. A smile is an instant connection – that transcends all languages.

I love the part about being yourself. So many people these days are trying to do everything else but. They have lost sight of what it means to be true to yourself. Often when we try to change who we are we just end up really unhappy. I used to be like this until I broke that habit. Now I have more confidence and am a not happier.

Powerful post! You and I are on the same page with regard to this subject. Everybody is extraordinary and has the ability to go beyond like the figures whom you mentioned. However, what stops many of us is the lack of belief in ourselves. Once we’ve conquered this setback, we will begin to reach our potential and become successful.

Awesome tips! I love every single one of them. I dream big (very big sometimes) but I always think what can I do today to get me a little closer to those dreams. It’s the small steps that take us big places.

There is a lot goes between your two ears. Most battles are won or lost just by your mind before the battle begins.

Anybody who can go through a full day smiling and walking on the bright side of life is as brilliant as anyone. If we were all like that the world would be a lot better!

If only everyone could read your post! We all have the ability to be extraordinary, but so many people don’t go for it!

I think your plan baby steps tip is a really good one, because so many people try to go too big, fail, and then give up. Smaller goals are easier to see yourself achieving and therefore easier to keep working towards.

Be yourself AND follow your passion and dreams.
Personally, if you’re going to try and follow the success of others, you’ll get nowhere – because you’re entirely different.

Loved the pointers in this post. As opposed to believing we have the power to be extraordinary, start by believing you already are. You just need to start moving forward to your dreams.

You’ve pointed out really great tips! Aside from these, I also would like to add that it is really very important that you believe in yourself. You have to believe that you CAN be extraordinary. If you do, you’ll have the motivation to pursue your dreams and continue your plans. 🙂

Good post. I also think that these people have unusual staying power, and will keep driving towards their goals long after most mere mortals give up.

Great post! Baby steps and being yourself resonated with me. Before I would try and be someone I wasn’t and get so overwhelmed with the goal that I wouldn’t even take one step. I went nowhere fast! Live and learn right?
