Sell Your Old Furniture During Spring Cleaning

March 1, 2012 10 Comments

The following is a guest post.

Spring is a wonderful time to get rid of old unwanted furniture and bring in wonderful new ideas. Often one needs to sell the old furniture before one can afford to buy new furniture at the furniture market. A great place to do this is at a flea market. The largest flea market is Brimfield Antique Show and Flea Market in Brimfield, New Massachusetts. The flea market occurs this spring May 8-13. The show, which runs along Route 20, features over 5,000 dealers. Of course, you will be among 250,000 visitors to this event which happens three times a year.If you have had your furniture for at least 20 years, then consider selling it at Alameda Point Antiques and Collectibles Faire in northern California. This market occurs the first Sunday of each month and draws crowds from throughout northern California and the San Francisco Bay area. When selling your furniture here you will be among the 800 other dealers so make sure to price your items correctly.First Monday in Canton, Texas, is a seller’s dream comes true. It has been for over 150 years. The flea market in east Texas is located along Interstate 20. Selling your old furniture here will put you among 28 miles of vendors.

Regardless of where you decide to sell your old furniture, spring cleaning gives you a wonderful opportunity to bring in new furniture. Bring in one new piece as a centerpiece to a room or bring in a whole houseful of new furniture. It will give your house a whole new energy.

That place in Canton, Texas is unbelievable. We’ll pass through there on our way to Austin and it’s gigantic.

We have one in Georgia close to where I live. It’s the Pendergrass Flea market. It’s open every weekend.

I usually take the route of posting my used furniture on online classified sites such as craigslist. People on there are always looking for a good deal though. So you usually won’t get the best price in return. It is satisfying to get rid of that old furniture and update it with something nicer.

I second Craigs List! I cannot even begin to tell you how much furniture we’ve sold through Craigs List. And at top dollar too! We don’t even wait around to have garage sales anymore. We just list it and within two days it is gone!

I’m going to start posting my old stuff on CL from now on and deal directly with the customers instead of eBay

Our goto place to sell stuff is Craigslist! Can be bit of a pain with the deluge of emails and questions, but other than that, selling on CL is easy and quick.

I’ve always gone the craigslist or garage sale route. I can’t see going to a flee market to sell a item or two of furniture that I’m replacing. However, if I ever want to get rid of the whole lot it might not be a bad idea.

I usually donate old furniture when I’m done with it. I know I should probably try to sell it, but it feels better to donate it. 🙂

I’m with Jen @ Master the Art of Saving: I just usually donate the stuff. It’s a pain to lug it outside or into the garage for a yard sale. Even better – let the Disabled Veterans or your local thrift store come pick it up! Great article!

We are actually going through our stuff and deciding what we can sell and what to donate. Its the declutter mission. We use Kijiji here for online selling at it works great.
