Opening a Scottrade brokerage account

August 10, 2011 4 Comments

I’ve always wanted something to supplement my 401k because we all know that having just a 401k is not cutting it these days. Just something else to fall back on and having that somthinge else is a lot better than nothing at all.

At first I was kinda hesitant about opening an account because I’m wasn’t sure about what I’m going to do with it and what I will invest in. It all seems a little daunting at first but it gets easier as the day goes by and Scottrade makes it simple for you.

One thing I especially like about Scottrade is their customer service live chat support, there is always somebody there no matter what time of day it is and I just love that because If I needed some technical support, they will be there.

Here are some features of what they have to offer:

  • $7 each trade.(Stocks and ETFs)
  • $0 Minimum to open an account. (I know it says $500 on the website BUT it’s not mandatory)

Products offered:

  •            Stocks
  •             ETFs
  •             CDs
  •             Mutual Funds
  •             Bonds
  • Top notch trading tools
  • Funds can be transferred from your checking account instantly. (Yes, INSTANTLY)
  • There are more than 400 local branches nationwide providing you their personal guidance
  • No maintenance fees
  • No hidden charges

Once you’re ready to invest, this is the brokerage I highly recommend. That’s because I use it, I wouldn’t recommend something I don’t use.

Opening an account here takes around 10-15 minutes, once you’re done; you’re required to fax in two documents that they will need you to sign. I was able to start trading after a day or two because once you open the account; you have to link it to your checking account via ACH which would take a day or two. Once the linking completes, you’re able to transfer instantly every time you want to invest.

I’m not a very big fan of Scottrade because I found I can get the same trading services from Sogotrade or Zecco, but for several dollars cheaper per trade.

How do you like Scottrade so far?

I’m all over this with this write-up, I must say i think this site needs considerably more consideration. I am going to probably be just as before to read much more, thanks for that info.
