There is a big debate all over the internet about security and how to best keep your computer safe. With internet security, there are many options. Some people have suggested that the use of free software like Ad-Aware and Spybot – Search & Destroy are more than enough to keep your system secure. Others point to the various programs you can pay for like McAfee, Norton and AVG that provide great protection and plenty of options. There are even some who choose to forgo all forms of security and take their chances.
I use Norton along side Spybot. Norton came packaged with my high-speed internet and has not let me down since the day I installed it. Spybot I find great for getting rid of any malware that is designed to hide from the many popular virus protection programs out there.
There was a time I felt like many people and did not care for installing all the bulky protection programs but I learned my lesson the hard way. It took a nasty virus and some of my personal accounts getting hacked and abused to come to this understanding. I lost plenty of time and money getting things back in order, not to mention the time spent on the phone opening new accounts. All which could have been avoided had I not been so stubborn about keeping my computer safe.
I hope that at least one person takes away from this some wisdom and is willing to invest the few dollars to secure their systems instead of going through what I had to. A 60 dollar piece of software is much cheaper than losing hundred of dollars to anyone willing to prey on those of us that think we know it all. Trust me it is well worth it.
